ISG was hired to assist the University System of Georgia (USG) in its strategic plan to replace its existing, distributed resource planning systems with a modern, centralized, cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution.

The University System of Georgia (USG) had a strategic plan to replace its existing, distributed resource planning systems with a modern, centralized, cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. The ultimate goal of the strategy was to save costs, improve efficiency and enable future technology and innovation across its entire system of university members, including:

USG hired ISG to serve as the primary advisor for the project. System component institutions are independent entities. ISG worked with representatives from the component institutions throughout the project.
Imagining IT Differently
ISG provided services for the university, including:
- Serving as USG’s Unified enterprise resource planning (ERP) project governance consultant
- Providing project vision and guiding principles development for this project
- Developing the project governance structure, including assigned roles and responsibilities
- Refining leading practice requirements based on requirements originally developed by USG with component representatives
- Comparing Oracle Cloud and Workday capabilities against the defined leading practice requirements
- Providing vendor selection recommendation and business justification for human capital management and financial management
- Recommending a detailed implementation approach
- Presenting an executive summary of the project to USG leadership.
Future Made Possible
- Guidance in the evaluation of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products and implementation services from a System-wide perspective and more independent of specific university or college influence than might otherwise be the case
- Expedited and more comprehensive evaluation of options through the use of an evaluation methodology supported with tools and templates which have been successfully employed by other large, complex university systems
- ISG’s independent perspective and experience that complements the professional perspectives of USG project leadership and team members, making for a more informed selection decision
